Anxiety, Panic & Phobias

Some anxiety is normal, and we all worry or feel anxious sometimes.  However, for some people anxiety can become chronic or interfere with life in ways that might cause them to seek support.  Is anxiety or worry keeping you from doing the things you want to do in life or interfering with your sleep or your relationships?  Whether it feels overwhelming or distressing or whether it feels milder but bothers you, I can help you learn how to better manage it.

Panic attacks are one extreme form of anxiety.  Since panic attacks have physical symptoms, you may feel like you are having a heart attack or something is wrong with you physically.  Panic attacks can occur in many different types of circumstances.  Sometimes the cause may be obvious, but sometimes it seems like a mystery.  Panic attacks can often be related to trauma and grief.  If you are suffering from panic attacks, I can help you decrease the severity and frequency of the panic attacks and work with you to determine and address the underlying causes.

Phobias are another extreme anxiety problem.  People can have phobias related to many different things, for example, flying, social situations, animals, heights, needles, blood, public places or enclosed spaces.  Sometimes trauma or loss can cause a phobia to develop.  For example, if you choked, you may develop a phobia related to eating, or if your loved one died in a car accident, you may develop a phobia related to driving or riding in cars.  If your phobia is related to trauma or loss, I can work with you to address these issues, or we can also target the phobia directly with EMDR therapy.
