In a mental health crisis, call or text 988 or go to the nearest emergency room. For other emergencies, call 911.
Clinical Consultation
As a therapist with over ten years of post-graduate experience, I offer consultation for other clinicians who want general support in their practice. This page gives examples of the kinds of therapists and consultation topics I have worked with, but please feel free to contact me if you have another topic in mind. If I don’t think I’m the right person to help you, I’ll let you know and will try to support you in finding someone else to consult with if I can.
Clinical Settings, Populations, Issues & Approach
I don’t necessarily need to have worked in the exact same type of setting as where you are working in order to be able to support you. However, if your consultation questions are specific to a particular setting, client population, clinical issue or approach to therapy, I may be better able to support you if I am familiar and have some expertise with it. These are the areas where I have the most experience:
• Community Mental Health
• Outpatient Therapy
• In-Person Therapy
• Virtual Therapy
• Adult Clients
• Trauma & Complex Trauma
• Grief & Loss
• Depression & Mood Disorders
• Anxiety, Panic Attacks & Phobias
• Relationship Issues
• Life Transitions
• Stress Management
• Personal Growth
I also have experience working with clients with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI), including psychotic disorders, Bipolar Disorders and treatment-resistant depression, as well as other issues such as Borderline Personality Disorder, suicidality, self-harm, insomnia, chronic pain or chronic illness, cancer and more. I am somewhat familiar with the 302 process, mental health court, community resources and options for higher levels of care, though these vary by county, and I do not consider myself an expert in this area. I have had to involuntarily commit clients, support clients in voluntarily admitting themselves and make reports to ChildLine, and I have worked with clients who were mandated to treatment by probation, parole, child protective services and mental health court. I have experience collaborating with psychiatrists and other prescribers, psychiatric rehabilitation staff, case managers, medical doctors and family members.
My approach to therapy is experiential, trauma-focused and attachment-based. If you use a more cognitive or cognitive-behavioral approach, I may be less familiar with the work you’re doing. Some of the things I would typically suggest may also be outside of your own training and experience. While it's not always necessary, it may at times be helpful to consult with someone whose training and approach are similar to yours.

Other Consultation Topics
Often the questions consultees ask are not specific to a particular setting, client population, clinical issue or approach to therapy. I have experience supporting other therapists around a wide range of topics. The following are some examples but not an exhaustive list.
• Starting a private practice, including developing intake forms and procedures, considering whether or not to take insurance, thinking through which technology platforms to use, etc.
• Networking and self-promotion
• Crafting ethical and therapeutic terminations, including recognizing when termination may be necessary even if counter to the client’s wishes and how to manage this
• Informing clients about upcoming changes to your practice, including schedule changes, changes in services being offered, planned leaves of absence, leaving an agency or group practice, retirement, etc.
• Creating a professional will
• Navigating ethical dilemmas created when two ethical principles (or an ethical principle and a law) conflict
• Setting and maintaining appropriate boundaries with clients, including recognizing when clinical factors indicate a need for boundaries to be different with different clients
• Using self-disclosure effectively and ethically
• Examining your own emotional responses to interactions with your clients and acknowledging when this may indicate a need to seek your own therapy
• Engaging in therapist self-care, including what this really means and understanding why its important
Frequency of Consultation
Frequency of consultation will depend on your needs and both of our availability. You might choose to have just one or two or a handful of consultations on a particular topic, or it might become more of an ongoing consultation relationship. I’ve had consultees who have wanted to meet on a regular basis (i.e., once or twice per month) and others who have only wanted to meet now and then when they have issues to discuss.
Current Fees
My current fee for consultation is $175 per hour. I have also at times done 1/2 hour consultations when appropriate.
Cancellation Policy
You must provide 48 hours’ notice of a cancellation to avoid being charged.
Payment Methods
I accept checks, credit cards, debit cards, Venmo and Paypal.
Consultation vs. Supervision
While I have in the past offered supervision for LSWs and pre-licensed professional counselors working towards a clinical license, I do not offer this service at this time. Please note that the consultation I provide cannot be counted towards the clinical licensure supervision requirement. As a consultant, I do not hold liability for how you practice.
