Adjunctive DBR

I offer different options for therapy: ongoing therapy, EMDR intensives, adjunctive DBR (this page) and CBT-I.  If needed, I can help you decide which style of therapy is the best fit for you.

What is adjunctive DBR?

Adjunctive DBR allows you to try Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) and get the benefits of this unique type of therapy even if you already have a therapist you like or are already doing another type of therapy that you want to continue.  This is a short-term therapy model.  We’ll meet for nine 90-minute sessions, which includes an intake and eight DBR sessions.

This is called adjunctive therapy because you’ll continue to meet with your regular therapist while you also meet with me.  Since we’ll only be doing DBR, which is not primarily talk-based, you’ll continue to get support from your regular therapist for things that happen between sessions, and the DBR is an adjunct to (i.e., in addition to) your regular therapy.  I can also communicate with your primary therapist as needed.

Intake Session

At the intake I’ll explain more about DBR, and we’ll practice some of the techniques.  I’ll also ask some questions and conduct some assessments.  This helps me to determine if this type of short-term, adjunctive therapy is appropriate for you and also to best support you during the DBR sessions.  If appropriate, we'll then continue on to the eight DBR sessions.  If after the intake my professional opinion is that short term, adjunctive DBR is not appropriate for you, I will discuss this with you, and we will not move forward with scheduling the eight DBR sessions.  You may also decide at that time not to move forward.

Session Length & Frequency

I typically meet with clients for 90 minutes about twice a month.  The two sessions might be two weeks in a row or might have a week or two in between them, depending on both of our availability.  Completing the intake and eight DBR sessions will therefore take about four to six months.

Other Options

After the eight sessions, some clients might do ongoing DBR therapy with me or at a later time sign up for another eight sessions.  Various factors go into making these decisions, including your interest, both of our availability and whether or not it is clinically appropriate for you to continue with DBR and/or with adjunctive therapy.  This is something we can discuss together if you’re interested.

Healing doesn’t mean the damage never existed.  It means the damage no longer controls your life.
